DESCRIPTION:

Small, usually multistemmed tree with
feathery foliage; twigs frequently armed with short prickles.

Height: 9-15 feet.

Flowers: Fragrant, creamy-white,
round heads; spring and after rains.

Fruit: Thick-walled pod.

Foliage: Deciduous, delicate,
fernlike appearance.

Bark: Tan (when young) to gray, with
shallow fissures and broad, flat ridges.

Growth rate: Medium.

NATIVE HABITAT:
Brush-grasslands. Most abundant in
Hidalgo and Starr Counties.
WILDLIFE USE:
Foliage used for cover, shade and
browse by wildlife and livestock; excellent nectar source.
COMMENTS:
Plant in a small area to appreciate
the light shade and fragrant
blossoms.
